A 54-year-old man, identified as Muthukumar, died this week after falling into a pot of boiling porridge in the city of Madurai, India. According to the authorities, he suffered burns on most of his body from him.

The incident occurred last Friday, July 29, when the Aadi Velli festival was taking place. It is an important celebration in the Tamil Nadu region, in which porridge (oatmeal dish) is cooked and distributed in honor of Goddess Amman.

In the middle of the event, porridge was made in large pots for the devotees of the Muthu Mariyammam temple. It was in one of these large containers that Muthukumar fell into, after suffering from dizziness, according to local media.
Security cameras captured the moment Muthukumar, who was helping cook, stopped and leaned over one of the pots. Seconds later, he went backwards and fell entirely into the boiling pot.

MUTHUKUMAR DIED DAYS LATER
The people who were in the place tried to help Muthukumar, who could not get out of the pot. The high temperatures of the oatmeal and the metal of the pot prevented his companions from getting it out in time.

Finally, they dumped the entire pot on the mud to rescue him. Emergency services were immediately called and Muthukumar was taken to a Rajaji government hospital.
Muthukumar entered the health center with burns on 65% of his body from him. Consequently, and despite the doctors’ attempts, the man died on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 2.

Muthukumar’s wife, who filed a complaint, claimed that her partner suffered from epilepsy and fell into the pot from a seizure. For their part, the local police have already launched an investigation to determine how the incident occurred.
